This beautiful couple, Carl and Jamal, met during Pride through mutual friends and who knew that the first text they ever exchanged “I’m going to marry you” would be a dream come true!
The Proposal
Everything happened on their first Thanksgiving together in Detroit with Jamal’s Family. Jamal planned it all! When he heard that Carl’s favorite band ‘Fleetwood Mac’ will be performing that same weekend in LA he immediately bought tickets for them to fly down to LA, purchased a ring, booked a hotel with a surprise bouquet of flowers to be presented upon return from the concert and booked the concert itself. And that is how Carl said YES! The rest is history.
THE WEDDING DAY
Their wedding day was absolutely magical, filled with lots of emotion, laughs and good music! Carl and Jamal said their ‘I DOs’ at Villa la Joya, surounded by their close friends and family. Both, Carl and Jamal wanted to make the wedding as much fun as possible, and incorporate some fun elements to their wedding such as Carl signing a song to Jamal, hiring a ukulele player, a cigar roller, brought their own DJ from the US and generally wanted to make the wedding a good experience for everyone. The vows were very unique – because as far as weddings go, their vows weren’t traditional. They were very raw and brought in a lot of our experiences as a couple, both good and bad and also said a lot about themselves.
What did you love most about working with us?
The thing we loved the most about working with Ashley and Paradise Studios was the amount of relief and relaxation it provided from hosting and herding friends, family and everyone else around. The 2 hours pre-wedding and the 2-3 hours post-wedding shots just out of all that was hectic, provided Carl and myself time to decompress and actually spend time with each other and have an amazing and fun photographer to hangout with during our photo shoot. Every time Ashley was around, our mood heightened and we were able to relax. We thought each time we were going into more pressure, but it ended up being a relaxing, fun time.
